Birthday Bash

Scott survived Leah's birthday party this past weekend. Later that night, he admitted that it wasn't so much the adults that overwhelmed him as it was the sheer number of kids... and the accompanying mess they made. (There were toys EVERYWHERE.) Leah had fun, though at times she was a bit overwhelmed by all the people.

She didn't make much of a mess with her cake. I'm not saying she was dainty, either, but she did manage to avoid her hair and ears, and her clothes stayed relatively cake-free. Initially, she just looked at the cake, pondering what to do with it. Even after she tried it, she wasn't quite sure what to do.

Opening gifts or playing with tissue paper?

Mmmmmm, cake

Lots of kids in one confined space can be pretty overwhelming, esp. for the unitiated (you know, the dads who aren't around it all the time). I have been pleasantly surprised at seeing how much better Matt is handling mass quantities of kids the 2nd time around with Sammy. I have a picture of him at K & N's house when we took Max there the first time and M & W were encroaching upon him as he held Max. He looked terrified - a deer caught in the headlights. Anyway, when we took Sammy over there to introduce them to him, Matt decided to teach all the kids how to have a pillow fight and then let them run at him full speed and he would pick them up and plop them on the couch. It's amazing what a few years and lots of exposure to chaos can do to a person!
